The project
The project:
e-DEVOY – e-Democracy: Empowering European Youth Voices is an Erasmus+ Youth Participation project that seeks to strengthen democratic engagement among young people through innovative educational approaches, digital participation tools, and opportunities for meaningful civic involvement. The project responds to the growing need for greater youth participation in democratic processes and aims to build stronger connections between young citizens and decision-makers.
Across Europe, many young people express concerns about political disengagement, limited opportunities for participation, and a lack of understanding of how democratic institutions function. At the same time, technological advancements have created new opportunities for participation that were unimaginable just a few decades ago. e-DEVOY was developed to help young people navigate this changing landscape and make effective use of digital tools for civic engagement.
The project recognizes that democracy is strongest when all citizens, including young people, have the opportunity to contribute their ideas and perspectives. By creating inclusive and accessible participation opportunities, e-DEVOY encourages young people to become active contributors to public life and advocates for issues that matter to them and their communities.
A central component of the project is the exploration of digital democracy. Participants will learn about online consultations, digital advocacy, civic technologies, social media engagement, and innovative participation platforms that allow citizens to interact directly with institutions and policymakers. These experiences will help them understand how technology can strengthen democratic participation when used responsibly.
The project combines non-formal education methodologies with practical civic engagement experiences. Rather than focusing solely on theoretical knowledge, participants will actively engage in discussions, simulations, workshops, and collaborative activities that allow them to apply democratic principles in real-life contexts. This experiential approach enhances learning and promotes long-term engagement.
Through its activities, e-DEVOY seeks to develop a wide range of competences among participants. These include leadership skills, communication abilities, critical thinking, teamwork, problem-solving, media literacy, and digital citizenship. Such competences are essential not only for democratic participation but also for personal development and employability.
The project places particular emphasis on inclusion and diversity. Efforts are made to ensure that young people from different backgrounds, including those with fewer opportunities, can participate meaningfully in project activities. By promoting equal access and participation, e-DEVOY contributes to more inclusive democratic processes and stronger social cohesion.
Partnership and cooperation are fundamental to the project’s success. Organizations involved in e-DEVOY work together to share expertise, develop educational resources, implement activities, and maximize the impact of project outcomes. This collaborative approach strengthens European cooperation and fosters mutual learning among participating organizations and communities.
In addition to its educational and participatory activities, the project aims to create valuable resources that can continue supporting youth participation beyond the project’s duration. These include educational materials, presentations, handbooks, recommendations, and practical tools that can be used by youth workers, educators, organizations, and young people themselves.
By the end of the project, e-DEVOY aims to have strengthened democratic awareness, increased youth participation, enhanced digital competences, and created lasting opportunities for civic engagement. The project represents an investment in young people and their capacity to contribute positively to the future of Europe and democratic societies worldwide.
